I am a multimedia journalist based in Missouri with nearly two decades of experience covering politics and policy.  I’ve worked for some of the largest news organizations in the Midwest, including The Kansas City Star, The St. Louis Post-Dispatch and The Iowa Independent, and have been a regular guest on KCUR in Kansas City, KFRU in Columbia, KMOX in St. Louis and Iowa Public Radio.

In October 2020, I helped launch The Missouri Independent, a nonprofit news organization focused on politics and policy in the Show-Me State.

Over the years I have been honored with numerous state and national journalism awards, including for “In-depth,” “Commentary and News Analysis” and “Beat Reporting” from the Association of State Capitol Reporters and Editors.

In 2016, I won a National Headliner Award and a McClatchy President’s Award for my coverage of sexual harassment in the Missouri Capitol.

I won a second National Headliner Award in 2018 for my coverage of secrecy in the administration of Gov. Eric Greitens and a third in 2019 for The Star’s coverage of the midterm elections in Missouri and Kansas.

I have also repeatedly been named one of the “best state political reporters” in America by the Washington Post.
